dear meghann zielinski,
please go with me on every adventure ever.
love,
sara.
i got lost in hartford, but much less lost than i expected to be, so we got an early start....which was good because then we got HORRENDOUSLY lost in new haven, elicting the help of 411, both my parents and a british pedestrian. we got to the train station exactly fifteen minutes before our train left, but there wasn't anywhere to park, so we went around the corner and parked in THE SKETCHIEST place ever. in the train station, it was warm and pretty; i got hot cocoa and bought our tickets, and we were suped.

this is the tunnel to the train tracks...it looked so matrix-y.
we arrived in new york around two o'clock, and took a bus up to Nini's [my aunt] apartment. a movie was being filmed across the street at the Dakota. apparently the movie is featuring Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan and it's about John Lennon [which makes sense, since he lived in the Dakota, and Yoko still lives there]

we wandered around Columbus Avenue for a while, looking for a chinese food place. a guy working for a charity stopped us, and made us feel awful for not having eighteen dollars a month to spare for poor central americans dying of diareahhahahhahhahahaha. or however you spell it. meghann and i talked about capitalism, and finally found a place to eat. we decided to make it "our place".

we went back to the apartment to drop off our leftover chinese food, and headed downtown. my first subway trip! whee! i forgot the address of the Knitting Factory, so i called kayla and she looked it up. we wandered around since we were early, and found some interesting things [including each other!].

this is me snarling at posuers:

we get into the club, it reeks of alcohol already and it's only seven. take a looksee at the schedule, and the Toasters aren't going on until twelve thirty. so we decided to wander around the Bowery a little bit; maybe seek out CBGBs. we went into the Midnight Cafe, where i had chocolate cake and meghann had a smoothie. we talked about her brother, and probably a million other things.

we went back to the show around ten....listened to a ska band from Holland but they were awful, and we left again. we had bought daypasses for the metro, so we went back to the apartment to rest for a little rest and leftover chinese food. we watched a special on rameses narrated by morgan freeman...because we're dorks. meghann fell asleep for a little bit, and when i woke her up we went back downtown for the Toasters! as soon as they started to play, the crowd ERUPTED in the a crazy ass moshpit, and it was fun. but weird, because who moshes to ska? oh well, it was a good time UNTIL WE WERE MOLESTED BY A TINY ASIAN MAN. we got out of the pit after the second song to avoid him. we danced around a bit and they played "two tone army" and "we're running right through the world" and "run rudy run". they play a bunch of new stuff that i didn't recognize. we left after "weekend in l.a." - everyone was absolutely trashed on Red Stripe and it was kind of gross. we crashed as soon as we got to the apartment.
in the morning, meghann took a shower while i packed and tidied up. we got buttered rolls from gray's papaya. on the way to central park, where we planned to enjoy our breakfast, i saw jaq crossing the street with coney! she's a friend of my aunt stefanir. i said hello and she looked very surprised. in central park, we wandered around for about an hour, and saw a lot of french tourists. these pictures were taken at the turtle rock.

we tried to find a coffee house next, just to sit and watch people and talk, but nothing looked right. finally on sixty first street we found an itty bitty bakery where we got two coffees for a dollar eighty! we sat in the window and looked at cute puppies and drank our luke warm coffee. i came to the revelation of, "fuck myspace. i know i'm cute." we walked back to the apartment to gather our things [stopped at Subway for sandwiches to eat on the train, and made friends with the guys there] and then took a subway [not the sandwich] to grand central. we made everything JUST IN TIME and navigated like pros. we caught a train just in time, and finally relaxed. we wolfed down our sandwiches before we had even left new york, but damn, they were good.

we played "LEMON" on the train, and almost died laughing. people around us were not pleased. we arrived in new haven around two-ish, only to discover that my car [not truck] had been broken into [the passanger window was broken] and my cd player [WITH MY BRAND NEW CROOKED RAIN, CROOKED RAIN CD INSIDE] had been stolen. it definitely took the wind out of our sails and put a damper on things. i called dad, and he told me to come down to clinton so he could tape it up. so meghann and i cleaned out the front seat and drove to clinton [since it's only twenty minutes from new haven] and dad taped up the window. i showed meghann around and we laughed at the white trashness. we drove up to hartford while meghann played with the duct tape; she made a lovely goatee and moustache for herself, and then fashioned a nouse AND A LITTLE MAN TO HANG FROM IT that it still swinging from the ohshit bar. i dropped her off at school, and then drove right to work.
all in all....EXHAUSTING. BUT FABULOUS.
